After having owned 25 G-Shocks, which contains a pretty wide variety of shapes, sizes, features, and price ranges, if not colors, I kept on convincing myself that there was no need for a G-Shock Square in my collection. Looking beyond the GW-9300 Mudman, which I consider as my best G-Shock ever, my best looking mainstream G-Shock was the GW-6900, that is until I finally fell down the G-Shock Square slope.
I would have started with either a GBD-200 or a GW-BX5600 as MIP displays are just awesome, but those were a little too expensive as a first square. I'm not sure I appreciate the design language of the enthusiast favorite square, (dare I name it) the GW-M6510u, especially with the red border, and I didn't want to spend on the GW-5000 either, so that left me with almost only one obvious choice.
As soon as I received my DW-5600 that neither has tough solar, nor multiband radio reception, nor world time, nor multiple alarms, nor auto backlight, having held it in my hands, I immediately looked like a fool to myself for not having tried one of these earlier. I was stunned at how comfortable the strap was and how well it fit on my wrist. I might as well call it even better fitting than the GW-2310FB, which by the way is my second one, as I missed my first one after having sold it to a jerk who firstly was too insulting during the exchange, didn't appreciate the EL backlight on the negative display, and then later gave me a bad rating. Anyway, the design on the 5600, though basic, gets the job done well, dare I say I like the face of this one better than the other squares. And, for the generic look on the face, I have some plans to make it even better, thankfully I have the DW-5600UE and not the DW-5600E, which replaces the EL backlight with an LED, hopefully favoring my upgrade, so stay tuned!
